the Dutch Swing

The Dutch Swing, New Music from the Low Countries. This programme is based exclusively on Dutch music. Rhythmic pulse is often the main component of modern Dutch music. The programme showcases the diversity within that particular style that can be found in this small country. An example is Michiel Mensingh, who took inspiration from drum 'n' bass music. A crucial aspect of this dance genre is the break-beat. Break-beats are created by re-playing samples of funk rhythms at high speed and cutting them up extensively, resulting in new, highly syncopated rhythms. The programme also includes compositions by Chiel Meijering, Timuçin Sahin and Paul Leenhouts.
